Eventually, I will introduce us but for now, the important thing to know is that we are a young, engaged couple that has their hands full of jobs and hearts full of love.
Our parents prepared us to know that life was going to be full of difficulty – we aren’t afraid of that. We have accepted every challenge and fought them with grace. I am proud of us for that. We are out here doing life and doing it pretty dang well. Don’t worry, I know we have our parents to thank for their years of wisdom and strength. We still need them.
We been together for seven years (time flies…). In this year of our marriage, we may be facing the most stressful Spring that we have ever experienced during our time together.
We are farmers. I can say ‘we’ with all honesty and intent because I have embraced this lifestyle since day one. I realized quickly that I was going to be the girl that needed to be in the field, sun up to sun down, working alongside the man I loved. I wanted to be like him. I craved the skill of making intuitive decisions and listening to the land. It was pure magic…with lots of dirt and prayers.
Planting season 2019 (#Plant19) has been rough. It is May 23 and there isn’t a single seed in the ground. The rain won’t stop and tension is rising on each farm. family and community. When this is your life, how do you tell your significant other that everything is going to be okay?
I can’t tell him the rain will stop.
I can’t tell him all the bills will wait.
I can’t tell him I have a solution.
I can tell him that he isn’t alone.
I can tell him that we will do whatever necessary to keep our heads above water (literally).
I can tell him that God’s plans are never ours.
So, what do we all do as we look out across untouchable fields? The clock is ticking on seed, insurance, and patience. This is the type of situation that silently degrades hope and health. The sad part is, we don’t even have the worst of it…
We embrace this life for what it is, a gamble. Sometimes pawns in a game. A game that we keep playing over and over again because there isn’t anything more rewarding. The truth is, we feel God’s presence with every rain drop just as much as we do with every round.
I pray that people recover from this year and that the agricultural community rises stronger.
If you are interested in contributing to farmers in need nation wide, please visit Ag Community Relief. I can tell you from first hand experience that this group is impacting thousands of people because my fiancé headed south in a convoy of Michigan truckers to deliver supplies to wildfire victims.
God bless…
and God save #Plant19.
